FAQ'S

What is good chiropractic care?

  • Good chiropractic care is an important part of a person’s health and wellness.  A chiropractor’s goal is to make your spinal column healthy again, relieving the stresses from your nerves, muscles, ligaments, joints, bones and internal organs.

  • The effects may be immediate or they may take time.  It depends on your overall health, your diet, exercise, life-style and regularity of chiropractic care.

What happens when you receive your first manipulation?

  • When you receive your first chiropractic manipulation you may hear and feel the vertebrae move.

  • Usually this is not painful unless there is significant muscle spasm and swelling in the area. In that case we will precede the adjustment with some type of physical therapy such as hot or cold packs, massage or electro-muscle stimulation to relax the muscle.

What causes that cracking sound during an adjustment?

  • The cracking is caused by gas rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. Not all techniques produce the cracking or popping sounds.

Is massage similar to chiropractic?

  • Both massage and chiropractic techniques are used to relieve similar symptoms, and may be used combined for some patients. The point of focus is different.

  • Chiropractic techniques work with the spinal column, nervous system, meninges, and body structure.  Massage on the other hand deals  with muscle tension, circulation and body fluid drainage.

What is subluxation?

  • Subluxation is a misaligned spinal vertebrae (bones of the spine).

  • Vertebral subluxation interferes with the ability of the nervous system to function properly.

  • Subluxation can be caused by minor accidents, stress or substance abuse. Many routine activities can also cause subluxations, such as incorrect lifting, bending, twisting, over-exercise, improper seat height at your desk, and repetitive movements.

  •  Automobile accidents are a major cause of subluxations. Often people believe the headache, stiffness or ache will go away by itself. These symptoms should never be taken lightly and should be checked by a chiropractor as soon as possible.

Can I detect a subluxation myself?

  • You may have a subluxation for a long time before any symptoms appear. It is possible for you to know you have subluxation, but it is rarely possible to know that you do not. That is why periodic spinal checkups are a good idea.
